Through some odd twists in the road over the past year, and a tardis encountered along the way, I find myself starting employment at Google today. One of the toughest things about life is making choices. I had a hard time saying "no" to a bunch of other excellent possibilities. I find it odd that this time I'm taking the road more travelled by, but it looks like interesting fun with huge leverage. I don't know what I'll be working on. I expect it'll be a bit of everything, seasoned with a large dose of grumpy curmudgeon. |
高斯林在去年甲骨文收購Sun時(shí)離開公司。雖然當(dāng)時(shí)業(yè)內(nèi)并不清楚他離開的真正原因，但據(jù)他本人后來對(duì)媒體透露的消息稱，他選擇離開Sun的原因是薪酬太低以及對(duì)公司的細(xì)節(jié)管理不太滿意。
高斯林加盟谷歌的時(shí)候，甲骨文正在控告谷歌的Android操作系統(tǒng)侵犯了它的Java專利權(quán)和版權(quán)。甲骨文提出的訴訟及其他一些事情引起了Java社區(qū)的高度重視。
Redmonk分析師邁克爾孔蒂（Michael Coté）稱，開發(fā)員們搞不清甲骨文以后還想怎么去控制Java社區(qū)，如果Java改變了長期以來的開源性，很多Java開發(fā)員肯定會(huì)表示不滿。
這樣，對(duì)于谷歌來說，招募一位象高斯林那樣德高望重和資深背景的人才就具有非常重要的意義?？椎俜Q：“谷歌已經(jīng)招募了Java社區(qū)里的一些著名智囊和技術(shù)領(lǐng)袖，將那些人才招募進(jìn)來后，谷歌就能在Java社區(qū)擁有更大的發(fā)言權(quán)?！?/P>
針對(duì)此消息，李開復(fù)微博稱，“James Gosling和Josh Bloch都是他當(dāng)年CMU同學(xué)。記得他嫌Emacs慢，自己做了一個(gè)可以壓縮加速的，大家都是收益者”。
